Snakes in your Crawlspace? Dead Mice in your Walls?
Over the years we have found many critters in crawlspaces, attics and even in air ducts.
Typically, we find more animals in the crawlspace than in the air ducts and usually they are dead. Dead animals in any part of your house can cause both indoor air quality and health problems. Live unwanted animals warrants an emergency call both to save the life of the animal and to save the ducts or crawlspace from damage.
The biggest danger to your health when dealing with a dead animal in the home is bacteria. As the body begins to decompose, bacteria starts to eat away at the organs and flesh of the animal. Gases can build up in the intestines and when the bacteria causes rupture, the smell, bacteria infestation and gases can cause a horrible smell and illness for the people living inside of your home. If you can smell the decomposition, you are most likely breathing in the bacteria.
Any time you are dealing with a dead animal in any part of your home, your indoor air quality is severely compromised.
The ease of dealing with dead animals varies by location. If the animal is located in the crawl space, it is a very easy – if disgusting, task to remove it. In the air ducts is difficult, but inside of a wall is the most difficult to locate and remove as the wall must be removed.
Once the dead animal has been removed, we then treat the area using an EPA registered biocide and allow area to ventilate for 3 to 5 days.
We do not clean up dead humans, or crime scene cleanup. Please call 911 or talk to the appropriate Police Department for these types of inquiries.
